“As we know, the cause célèbre of the anti-vax movement is the supposed association of vaccination with autism. Which in turn is demonized, and I use that word deliberately, because I’d argue that a religious analogy is appropriate here. And this young woman, brought up to believe this, has formed a relationship with a young man who, at least according to what she’s probably heard at school, may be autistic.

None of us is expert in all situations. It is a sign of intelligence to recognize our limitations and of maturity to seek help when required. The school had zero problem with him being coached in the physical aspects of the cross-country run but apparently would have thought him deficient if he had sought help with the psychological component.
