I put on my best grin and wait for her head to shoot up as she grows closer, for her to peek up at me, flutter her lashes, and apologize for trying to pawn me off, then beg me to let her make it up to me by going down, but she doesn’t do any of those things either.
“Are you trying to lose this job, Meyer? Because as you know, I can make that happen.” I hate when he threatens my position like this, as if I didn’t get this tutoring job on my own merit, but being he pulled me into his department, he does now have complete control over my main source of income.
“Why don’t you try to get in my bed?” She nearly chokes, tries to escape, but I block her, and her brows cave. “I’m your tutor.” “That’s not an answer.” I lick my lips. “I can give you whatever it is you want, do whatever you like. I’m a generous man. I’d be good to you, I promise.”
And I’m hard as a fucking rock. For my messy, prudey, annoyingly pretty eyed, goddess-shaped tutor. The one girl seemingly immune to my charm. I don’t get it, but I want to. I want to know her. Understand her. I kind of just want to talk to her for a while. What kind of warped world is this?
“Well, there it the fuck it is, son. I called that shit when she stunned your ass by walking away from you without giving you the time of day.” I chuckle when he bumps his shoulder into mine. “Yeah, fucker. You did.”
I can see it in her eyes. She wants to flirt, but more than that, she wants to be flirted with. And then she wants what follows. The pull in her core, the heat between her legs, the kind that only burns deep with the touch of a man. A man who wants her just as much. What’s holding you back, baby?
“Hey, you passed out at the grill. It took three of us to get your ass into the car and out into Coach’s room last night. I loaned you a shoulder and you happily loaned me your room so I didn’t have to keep X up all night in mine.” I fucking knew it.
I bring my right hand to her back again, using caution as I grab Bailey’s car seat with my left. I lead us into Meyer’s room. Nudging the chair out of the way, I set Bailey down, making sure the sleeping princess is facing away, and then drive my fingers into Meyer’s hair.
“I don’t know how the fuck last night turned into what it did, but it never should have happened. I wanted to get back here, and I was the first out the door, but then this thing with scouts popped up and ... I should have called you. I should have left when an hour went by and they never showed, but it didn’t and that won’t happen again.”
“I don’t expect you to—” “Expect it,” I cut her off. “Whatever it is, expect it, want it, demand it even. There’s only one other person in this fucking world I allow to get in my head, but baby, you didn’t ask permission.” My lips curl into a smile. “Girl, you didn’t even want the spot, the way I remember it, but you stole it regardless.”
