Listen to these probing words from a woman of experience: “The Lord is disappointed when His people place a low estimate upon themselves. He desires His chosen heritage to value themselves according to the price He has placed upon them.”1 My paraphrase of this wise counsel would be that God’s heart sinks when we have low self-esteem. He wants us to value ourselves infinitely. He wants us not just to accept His valuation of us, but to esteem ourselves according to the infinite price of His own life, which sustains everything in the cosmos.
