Twenty Percent Time. Google famously offered its early employees the opportunity to spend 20 percent of their time pursuing personal projects that might or might not have a clear connection to their daily work. We have this program to thank for products such as Gmail, Google Maps, Google News, and even AdSense. All of them grew out of projects started in employees’ spare time.
