Chimps might have the prerequisites because they can create some mental similarities amid perceptual differences. For instance, they know that leopards climb trees, snakes climb trees, and monkeys climb trees. It’s conceivable that chimps could extend this concept to a new animal who can perform a similar action, such as a housecat, and predict that the cat will climb a tree.
