“On Saturday night, you go out with your boyfriend,
on Friday night, you go out and look for your new boyfriend.”
Shouldn’t I be the one out, getting stoned and drunk with my friends?
Sadly, my parents’ social life far surpasses mine.
His arm is quite swollen.
I touch it very gently, and crap, it feels hot to the touch.
This arm is broken.
Phillip does a perfect imitation of my dad’s deep voice.
Jake has nowhere in mind to go.
Phillip and Danny both seem to know exactly where they are going.
Phillip watches out for me like a big brother,
I really don’t think he needs to worry about Danny.
“Any sparks with Danny?”
with Danny, I might very well burst into flames.”
Danny is one of my best friends, but I’m not sure I trust you with him tonight.”
think I might damage his reputation?

Danny is a good guy, and you know it.”
tonight, he looks like he could eat you alive.
“Well, hotshot”—Jake snorts—“don’t think
you’re gonna get anything from that.” He scowls at me.
He laughs out loud at Jake and says,
Jake, ya think maybe there’s a reason she’s never done it with you?”

“When we got there, I found out that my mom had died.
and my dad died a few hours later.”
“You’re very right. It is so not funny. But it’s the truth.”

“Well, he sort of met with the football team.”
He just wanted to make sure you’d be okay and that someone
was around if you needed anything.”
that was really, really sweet of Danny.
I told my mom that I’d been swinging so high
“Only deal with what you can control, JJ.”
Matt treated me well and had almost earned Phillip’s and Danny’s stamp of approval.
he informed me that he had sort of gotten engaged to a girl from home.
This morning, Phillip brings me coffee in bed.
“So, what do you want?” “You.”
want you,” he repeats. “Go out with me for real, Princess.”
“I see it, Phillip. I even feel it, but I choose not to cross the line. I care too much about you to throw our friendship away on a fling.”
“And you’re probably perfect for me.” I sigh big. “See? See the problem? I have a major conflict of interest here.”
