Because not every parent is worthy of respect, this commandment is, to use a legal term, overinclusive: it’s a law that protects people it should not. But curiously, it is also underinclusive, failing to protect people it should. Since the code already mandates blind respect, it could easily be improved by extending the requirement to honor to all one’s family, or better yet, one’s fellow human beings.
