In our own time, the experience of St. Teresa of Calcutta provides a remarkable example of a decades-long willingness to accept the dark night. Her spiritual director, Joseph Neuner, SJ, identified her long interior trial as the dark night of John of the Cross. At his request, Mother Teresa described her interior experience in writing.
