Nevertheless, fervent crusades and fierce denunciations abound over statistical disparities in outcomes between various social groups in matters large and small—whether “under-representation” of women in Silicon Valley, Hispanics in the Ivy League, blacks among Academy Award nominees or other groups in innumerable other endeavors.
