He quickly realized that the things accumulated over decades of living could not simply be piled up and hauled off, but required careful scrutiny. He discovered boxes of dresses his grandmother had worn as a girl, an old trunk filled with Life magazines from the forties and fifties. He felt an enormous responsibility in being the one to declare their worth or lack thereof. What if he threw away something that had been especially meaningful to his grandmother, a family memory that once discarded by him would no longer exist?
