She would find her place, despite Thorn.
Thorn didn’t care about anyone; Ophelia decided not to care about him anymore.
“What you did, earlier, on that rostrum,” said Thorn, his voice leaden. “It was brave.”
insult me, slap me, smash a plate over my head if you feel like it, and then let’s never speak of it again.
“I don’t say that to make you anxious. I say it because you are capable of it, as I have witnessed more than once.”

She saw only Thorn in his big, black uniform, at the very back of the auditorium, well hidden from view. He was not applauding.
“He is the embodiment of order, and I am that of chaos.
“He must not be allowed time to record the incident in his notebook. Or the entire theatre could suffer the consequences.”
Now she realized she’d been gravely mistaken: there was something else about this tale. Farouk’s power had become so uncontrollable that the entire theater had had to be evacuated.
“I would never do you any harm.”
He really was serious about their reconciliation.
And I don’t give a damn whether people find me suspect, as long as I am not so in your eyes.

Without thinking, Ophelia dived headfirst into her great-uncle’s big belly.

He is scared of becoming what God expects of him, and he is also scared of never becoming it.
