Most people assume reading is merely picking up a book and looking at words. That’s an ineffective approach.
Despite knowing what to do and how to do it, old habits make it challenging actually to do it.
Setting a goal or purpose activates different neural networks and regions of the brain to work in unison.
Now, just because you know the purpose, that doesn’t mean your mind will know as well.
The key is to determine why you are reading the text or what you want to know once finished. If reading for an assignment, you might ask why the instructor assigned the chapter or section. Two universal examples include: What can I get out of this material or How will reading it help me?
