When I was a toddler, my mom was everything to me. I was a little performer, and little performers need tons of attention. But it was her attention I craved more than anyone else’s; she was the one I most wanted to get my jokes and like my songs. And for the most part, she did get a kick out of me. But on this day, I’d unknowingly tapped into something sexual—and worse, I was a boy all lit up by another boy. Somehow, I got that that was the problem.
