He concentrated instead on Indonesian domestic problems. In particular, Suharto ended Sukarno’s armed “confrontation” with Malaysia over Borneo, rejoined the United Nations, abandoned Sukarno’s ideologically motivated alignment with Communist China, and aligned Indonesia instead with the West for economic and strategic reasons.
