Part of being in a state of acceptance is constantly forgiving others their trespasses. We may feel justified in holding on to hurt feelings because it seems to punish those who hurt us. In reality, holding on to negative emotions hurts us, not them. They may or may not be aware of how we feel, but the way they feel is entirely up to them. Acceptance is realizing that we have no control over anyone in this way; we can only decide how we want to feel now.
