Thanks to a bit of cosmic luck, we were born at the time we were, and in the place we were. It could’ve easily been any other time and some other place. I find that recalling that makes having historical empathy somewhat easier.
Unless humankind can break patterns of collective behavior that are older than history itself, we can expect to have a full-scale nuclear war at some point in our future.
Humankind is more than seventy years into an ongoing experiment. The experiment will answer the question of whether we can handle the power of the weapons we’ve created.
