She dropped her head, and as she did, she raised her hands high in the air, her wrists crossed and her thumbs linked together, the fingers of each hand splaying out like— Like a bird. Like a… crow. In a heartbeat, the gesture was picked up by those around her, everyone who wasn’t restrained lifting their hands and bowing their heads.
Then a man midway to the back raised his hands, holding them over his head in the shape of a crow. The gesture spread across the room until I stared out at a sea of hands and fingers splayed like wings.
