God Doesn’t Make Mistakes: Confessions of a Transgender Christian

Being alone is not an atypical situation for those who are transgender, and it can be even lonelier for Christians who are transgender. Many of us live in the shadows of the Church, we’re there but all you see is the outside and whatever little bit about ourselves we may choose to divulge to you. You see a man or a woman, we may have transitioned already, or we may be hoping for the day that we can—but you see only the part of us we allow you to see. You know, the “shiny” part. The part that looks good on the outside. Within us there is pain. Pain perhaps from the loss of loved ones, not because of death but because of our existence and the distancing that comes after transitioning. The pain may be from the knowledge you’re not the gender that biology gave your body and yet you feel stuck, like there is nothing you can do about it and the life of duplicity you’re leading is slowly eating you up inside.

Intentionally causing a disruption within the church is not a loving act. People’s HEARTS need to change; you can’t just change laws and think people are going to go along. As people’s hearts change, laws become less necessary.
