by way of summary, we can say that water baptism is related to Christ in three basic ways. First, it is connected to the circumcision of the heart. Second, it refers to the union of the believer with his Lord. This union includes identification with His righteousness, and with His death, burial and resurrection. Third, it is clearly related to the baptism of the Holy Spirit. Physical circumcision has the same relationship in all three respects, and was nonetheless administered to infants.
