Here too is a true and trustworthy maxim: The Lord is tender and compassionate in our fearfulness. How often did God have to remind Joshua to be strong and courageous? Many times, because he wasn’t! In our fleshly-fear the Lord is merciful. He is merciful to expose us now, in time of relative security, rather than later, in time of utter chaos.
As I was reading this, I thought, I don’t really fear anything because I trust in Jesus...then I realized I did fear before but I’ve given it all to Jesus—instead of fear, I have Jesus—even unto death; to live is Christ, to die is gain.
