The first step to addressing negative self-talk is to notice that it’s happening. It’s kind of like noticing yourself breathing or blinking (you’re doing it now, aren’t you?). Once you’ve noticed it, it’s hard to stop. So now I bet you’ll catch yourself the next time you have a negative thought about yourself. And that’s great! Once you’ve noticed that it’s happening, you can interrupt the thought. The next step is to acknowledge that the feeling is real and valid, but not objective reality.
