He also owned a chain of movie theaters, a cigarette manufacturing plant, a conglomerate of hotels, and a fleet of oil tankers.6 During World War II, Tisch served under William “Wild Bill” Donovan at the Office of Strategic Services (OSS) and never severed his ties to the intelligence community. He was a distinguished member of the Council on Foreign Relations (CFR), a Washington “think tank.”
