‘Brienzi’, a headless male body fully encased in adipocere, was found floating in a bay of the Brienzer See in Switzerland in 1996. Analysis finally determined that he had drowned in the lake in the 1700s and his body had become covered in sediment. Two weak earthquakes in the area might have been sufficient to eventually dislodge him from his incarceration, allowing him to rise to the surface.
