This religion is pure and sincere; everything else is idolatry, even though it uses the name of the true God as a cover. There are as many idols as there are sects.
He properly responds to the alarm of his conscience by confessing his sin. With Isaiah’s response in Isaiah 6, Luther shows that the purest form of devotion is to confess. To confess is to say the same thing as God.
The correct response of the people of God to an alarmed conscience is to join Isaiah and confess our sins before God.
