Practice listening many times per day, even for short periods of time, such as when you’re riding in the car, sharing a meal, or watching TV together. Allow your teen to control the agenda of the conversation during these times. Often, the best thing you can do is simply to listen to whatever your teen has to say. Then show that you’ve heard and understood how your teen feels.
