“No he doesn’t,” said Tolya. “He watches her the way Harshaw watches fire. Like he’ll never have enough of her. Like he’s trying to capture what he can before she’s gone.” Zoya and I gaped at him. Then she scowled. “You know, if you turned a bit of that poetry on me, I might consider giving you a chance.”
“Now, let’s show Misha how bad dancing’s done.” “Kill you, dance with you. Any other requests?” “Not at the moment,” he said, pulling me close. “But I’m sure I’ll think of something.”
I paused to light one for Harshaw, then another, and another. He would have liked the flames.
