Knowing what I do about the casting of The Rise of Skywalker, part of me thinks that this is about Palpatine--living on indirectly through Vader, via his love by Kylo. On the other hand, I wonder if this is rather a more veiled reference to Darth Plageous the Wise. While that novel is no longer canon, the tragedy of Plageous is very much a part of Revenge of the Sith. Plageous learned to conquer death and could live again through Palpatine--just some food for thought.
