Even King David recognized we could carry negative events that befall us in our youth with us into adulthood. “Greatly have they afflicted me from my youth, yet they have not prevailed against me. The plowers plowed upon my back; they made long their furrows” (Psalm 129:2-3, NIV). David tells of the deep scars we bear due to the abuse and neglect of those whom we may have trusted.
