When we are engrossed in shame we play the destructive game of comparing ourselves to others.
Our misguided response may be to withdraw from others, not giving them an opportunity to nurture us. Or we may turn to excessive pleasures that will monopolize our time and take our mind off our emotional discomfort. This could be using food to soothe, excessive shopping, endless video games or television.
God doesn’t move away from us because of our sin nature; we move away from Him. And when we move away from God, we have difficulty

Once you have trained people to accept you because of your ability to jump through hoops, they expect you to keep jumping. Such a lifestyle can leave you feeling drained and resentful. And when the day comes that you can’t keep up, (and that day will come) you are left feeling inadequate and like a failure.

we do not grieve losses and disappointments, they will haunt us. Our emotional pain, if not dealt with properly, will serve as a cancer in our lives that can lead to more distressful emotions including resentment and bitterness.
God has the capability of restoring our ability to love others and allow ourselves to be loved. He is the author of love and can soften our hearts and help us place our emphasis outwardly.
