Few managed to do so quite as shamelessly as Jacob Rees-Mogg, chair of the so-called European Research Group of Brexit hardliners, who explained on the 27 March: ‘I won’t abandon the DUP because I think they are the guardians of the union of the United Kingdom’. Two whole days later, he abandoned the DUP and voted for the Withdrawal Agreement he had previously described as ‘slavery’.
