I tried to come up with examples to challenge his faith in adjectives. A procrastinating tree, a lofty shadow, an estival trance, a burdensome coda. The ineffable miasma of incompetent words, he said. What do you call an aneurysm of a mind that’s clotted by words? As long as I stay clear of adjectives I remain uncluttered, I said.
