The lack of oxygen moving into the body and the dried blood beneath the skin made the person appear to turn black; from this dramatic symptom, the disease became known as the Black Death.
Oh no, I happen to know that this is not true! I read a book on the "Black Death" that said this name only came to be applied to this event centuries afterwards. Even in Europe, it was commonly referred to as the "Great Death" in the contemporary time.
