There is a beautiful scene from the book Invisible Cities by Italo Calvino, and I can’t help but recall it now. Calvino wrote a fable of a city where people’s apartments are connected by threads. The threads are strung from one apartment and across the street or down the block to another apartment. Each thread represents a different kind of relationship.
