I see this in my private practice as an ever-increasing number of twentysomethings come into my office—or email me—complaining of problems with their social lives. “I don’t know how to go deep with people.” “I’ve never had a best friend.” “I’ve never been on a date.” “I’ve never kissed a guy.” “I can’t stop thinking about what other people think about me.” Perhaps this is the true travesty of “social” media: the damage it has done to the social lives of young people just when they need others the most.
