Naxals in Jharkhand have set aside their ideals and emerged as a mining mafia. A report claims that a multi-crore mining scam is being staged by the Naxalites. The Maoist extortion business is estimated to be around a whopping Rs 2,000 crore. All contractors have to pay five to ten percent of the project cost to Naxalites as ‘protection money’. Trucks that pass through the ‘Red Corridor’ pay Rs 1,000 each per month.
