“I swear to God, Elena, if I find out you’ve let some man touch you, I will deliver his hands to you in a box.” I swallowed. “And I do not. Fucking. Bluff.” He slammed the door behind him.
“Because you’ll fall in love with her,” she said. “And she won’t love you back.”
“I said I’ll never hurt you, Elena, but if I find out you’ve touched another man, there is nothing in this world that could save him.”
“There’s nowhere you could go that I couldn’t find you.”
“Tell me,” Sebastian said, “why did you do it?” A heavy silence took over, and my chest tightened at Nico’s cavalier tone. “He had something I wanted.”
wanted to know how many men there’d been, their names, and everything they did to her, so I could do it twice as hard and make her forget they existed. I wondered if she was on the pill, and in a disturbing way kind of hoped she wasn’t. I wanted an irrevocable tie to this woman. I wanted to write my name on her skin, to do all kinds of fucked-up shit so she knew she was mine.
“I’m betting if you ask him for something he might just give it to you.”
“Maybe I wanted to,” I whispered. He watched me for so many seconds it made my pulse race. He closed his eyes and shook his head. “Come on. Let’s go inside.” He grabbed my hand and tugged me along. I followed. He was comfort, security, and need, all in one. It had a name. Home.
“You make me fucking crazy.” “Don’t blame me for your psychosis.” “You are my psychosis.”
Crazy, she called me. She had no idea how goddamn crazy I could be. I’d give Christian an hour before I started tearing this city apart piece by piece.
“Men like you break a woman’s heart . . . I didn’t want to love you.” His deep voice filled my ears. “Did it work?” My heartbeat drummed. “No,” I breathed.
“You poor thing, you. Looks like you’re stuck with him for good. Ace might be a cheat at heart, but he always does exactly what he says he’s going to do.”
Whiskey and flame. Sleepless nights. Tattooed skin, white t-shirts, and rough hands. Love and lust and happiness. He was everything.
