Such advocacy sites say they’re there so that people with similar views can exchange thoughts and ideas without worrying that they will be ridiculed or attacked. While this sounds innocent enough, in practice it means that members are shielded from any disconfirming facts or ideas. Anyone challenging the basic assumptions of the group is branded a “troll” and will likely be banned. The tools exist to easily maintain the intellectual purity of the group.
