This logical fallacy is often combined with a tu quoque logical fallacy. For instance, someone engaged in rank pseudoscience might argue that mainstream scientists sometimes break the rules too, by using small sample sizes, subjective outcomes, or similar bad methods. Therefore, there is no real difference between science and pseudoscience. This type of argument is closely related to another logical fallacy, the false equivalency. Extreme fraud doesn’t become okay because everyone cheats a little.
