A false continuum is the idea that because there is no definitive demarcation line between two extremes, the distinction between the extremes is therefore not real or meaningful. For example, there is a fuzzy line between cults and religion, therefore they are really the same thing. This is like saying that no one is short or tall, that the very concepts of shortness and tallness are invalid because there is no sharp dividing line between the two. However, extremes can exist and be meaningful and clearly recognized, even when there is a fuzzy border in the middle.
