It’s like a bicycling team in the Tour de France. The rest of the team helps the lead rider position himself so that he can make the final end run that earns him his yellow jersey. Because he crosses the finish line first, we generally only know the name of the winner—not the supporting domestiques. Even so, the other riders played an important role.
