The little-known eighteenth-century law allows the president to imprison and deport immigrants over the age of fourteen from a country considered an enemy of America during wartime. Moreover, detentions and deportations that occur under the Alien Enemies Act bypass our immigration court system, where immigrants can seek relief and make their case to stay in the country.
