I got us tickets to see Joni Mitchell for my birthday, even though at that time Joni Mitchell was more Sam’s favorite than mine, so I had literally gotten us a birthday present for her, on my birthday, which speaks volumes about what I thought true romantic love was back then: all about the other person and nothing about me at all.
