The Elements of Style

When we speak of Fitzgerald's style, we don't mean his command of the relative pronoun, we mean the sound his words make on paper.

There is a relationship between language and music and sport, everything that has rhythm. Though I had an innate understanding of this, like all humans must, I first articulated it soon after theRoja film was released. Actually, I mean the songs of the film. I was listening to the Hindi version. But it had this distinct South Indian flavour to it. Though I was listening to Hindi, it did not sound like Hindi. Then I realised the music and rhythm was composed for the natural flow of Tamil lyrics. Hindi was later forced into that rhythmic structure. The sound of of a language is the art of it. Another example that comes to mind is the poetry of T S Eliot. Read it out aloud. You will hear what I mean.
