Joshua Brown, who died at the wheel of his Tesla in 2016, had been using Autopilot mode for 37½ minutes when his car hit a truck that was crossing his lane. The investigation by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration concluded that Brown had not been looking at the road at the time of the crash.
