French is an unstressed language, by which I mean that the language itself doesn’t use stressed syllables. English, however, is highly stressed; stress plays a part in distinguishing homographs and meaning, like “PRO-duce” and “pro-DUCE.” Where do we put the stress in a word that’s unstressed?
