“I think I’m starting to get used to you.” He had said this last sentence in the neutral tone of an accountant, but Ophelia started to shake.

“You will no longer have to look her in the face. I’m going to send that woman away, very far from Citaceleste. Didn’t I tell you that I would take my revenge on all those who went for you?”
But there is one thing that you need to know about me.” Ophelia forced herself not to look away from Thorn’s piercing eyes, two heads above her. “I don’t love you.”
“Don’t apologize too quickly,” he said, his accent even harsher than usual. “You’ll be regretting having me for a husband soon enough.”
For all these past weeks, it wasn’t her that Thorn had strived to protect. It was her reader’s hands.
