“We just try to get our paragraph right.” Life is short and this world is big. Get your paragraph right.

If we are lucky, we turn out to be nothing but wiser, happier versions of our younger, stupider selves. If we are lucky, we wind up with jobs we could never have imagined and friends who run right beside us, down the stairs and out the door and onto the empty beach.

President Obama addresses the country in his second-to-last State of the Union address: “I have no more campaigns to run,” he says, and some conservative congressmen clap. And then, like a boss, he says, “I know, ’cause I won both of ’em.”

recall what FLOTUS said at the convention last summer: “Being president doesn’t change who you are—it reveals who you are.”

You can’t keep the end from ending.
