There’s no such thing as a casual suggestion when it comes from the owner of the business. When the person who signs the paychecks mentions this or that, this or that invariably becomes a top priority. So something as minor as “Are we doing enough on Instagram?” can shoot Instagram to the top of the marketing priority list. It was a mere suggestion, but it’s taken as a mandate. “Why would she be talking about Instagram unless she really thought Instagram was super important?” It only gets worse if employees find the owner pulling at the weeds themselves.
