“Hey, Mom and Dad, I like boys, too” and “I get a chubby watching Chris Evans in anything,”
Is that what it’s like having a crush on someone who doesn’t want you back? It steals your light?
Zach isn’t what Sebastian would call fragile, but anyone’s entire universe can be shattered when it involves approval from family or someone you’re attracted to.
Some exes are just a sentence in the story of life, not the defining chapter with all the drama and awesome climax.
“Life’s complicated, but so is math.”
It’s scary, coming out to his parents. When it comes to being anything other than straight, it seems there’s a fine-print clause: a penalty for full disclosure when you belong to the LGBTQ community.
It’s one big, selfish moment when you don’t give a shit about other people’s opinions, but you still want your friends to love who you are and what you do.
It’s okay to give yourself a pep talk, for the sake of self-esteem.
He leaves out and I think I’m falling for him because that is a moment of pure boxed-macaroni-and-processed-cheese-cheesiness he can’t live out loud.

Lily holds up a hand, and Sebastian’s mouth snaps shut. She says, “Bastian, you can do whatever you want, when you want. The only thing in life you have to do is live it.” Her hand covers his, squeezing. “Go to college, chase your dreams of being a pro athlete. Or take some time off, find yourself, and be an ‘adult’ later.”
“Honey, the universe is a bizarre place. Back then, Emir gazed at you like you were a solar system. So much to see! It’s fate.”
That’s the thing about life: The biggest, most thrilling moments can make you wish they wouldn’t happen at all.
The future is only grim because people see it that way. It’s unpredictable. Life is a summer storm of insecure thoughts. There’s an umbrella of precautions to prevent insecurity, but it doesn’t always keep the rain out of your face.
