My hand goes to my face, and I realize I’m crying. This time, it wasn’t just a dream. It was just one of my many painful memories.
“Lexi,” he says with a cruel tone as he shoves me into the wall. “I remember telling you to never mention any of this… to anyone!” With a shaky voice I say, “But, I didn’t.” He picks me up holding me to his face. My legs dangle, unable to touch the floor. “Don’t lie to me!” His spit hits my face, and I can taste stale cigarettes. “I’m not. I swear. I said nothing!” I’m squeezing my eyes shut and my chin won’t stop trembling.
I think I’m breathing. I quickly pat myself down, making sure I’m still in one piece. I am.
